45th Vice President of the United States

Al Gore, an American politician, teacher, businessman, and environmentalist who was the 45th Vice President of the United States in the Clinton administration from 1993 to 2001. Previously, he had served in the United States House of Representatives (1977-85) and the United States Senate (1985-93) for Tennessee.

Gore was the Democratic nominee for President in the 2000 election. He won a plurality of the popular vote, with over half a million more votes than the Republican candidate George W. Bush, but was defeated in the Electoral College by a vote of 271 to 266.

Gore currently is president of the American television channel Current TV, chairman of Generation Investment Management, a director on the board of Apple Inc., and an unofficial adviser to Google's senior management. He lectures widely on the topic of global warming, which he calls "the climate crisis".

Gore has contracted to write a new book, The Assault on Reason, to be published May 22, 2007. While Gore has stated that he does not intend to be a Presidential candidate again, he has left open a possibility towards being a candidate in the future, and Gore is frequently mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
 
 

John Quelch
Senior Associate Dean, Harvard Business School

John A. Quelch is Senior Associate Dean and Lincoln Filene Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. Former positions held by him include Dean of London Business School. (Between 1998 and 2001) Sebastian S. Kresge Professor of Marketing and Co-Chair of the Marketing Area at Harvard Business School (1998). Professor Quelch is the author, co-author or editor of twenty books, including Business Solutions for the Global Poor: Creating Social and Economic Value (2007), The New Global Brands (2006), Global Marketing Management (5th edition, 2006), The Global Market (2005), Cases in Advertising and Promotion Management (4th Edition, 1996) and The Marketing Challenge of Europe 1992 (2nd edition, 1991). He has published articles on marketing issues in leading management journals such as Harvard Business Review, McKinsey Quarterly and Sloan Management Review. Professor Quelch is a non-executive director of WPP Group plc, Pepsi Bottling Group, Gentiva Health Services and Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. He also serves pro bono as Chairman of the Port Authority of Massachusetts and as Honorary Consul General of Morocco in New England. Professor Quelch has been a consultant, seminar leader and speaker for firms, industry associations and government agencies in more than fifty countries

Kevin Roberts is the New York-based CEO Worldwide of Ideas Company Saatchi & Saatchi. Clients include some of the world's best-performing companies including Procter & Gamble, Toyota, General Mills, Visa International, Ameriprise, JC Penney and Novartis.

Nigel Parsons
Managing Director of Al Jazeera

Nigel Parsons joined Al Jazeera International in August 2004 as Managing Director based in Doha, Qatar, in charge of overseeing the launch of the English speaking news and current affairs channel. Before that, he was as a Director of Associated Press Television News, APTN, (created when AP bought WTN), responsible for contract revenue and broadcaster relations worldwide.

Nigel’s media career started in newspaper as a journalist Cambridge Evening News and then at the New Zealand Herald, before moving into radio and finally television with UPITN, which later became WTN (Worldwide Television News).

In 1985, he joined WTN as a news desk editor moving to Zurich in 1988 as Operations Director and one of the founding members of EBC (European Business Channel), a bi-lingual, English-German business channel for Europe. He then moved to Milan to re-launch local entertainment cable channel Telecampione as a news and business channel.

Nigel Parsons’ experience spans 30 years in the media business gained from his roles at BBC Radios 1-4, BBC World Service Radio and WTN (Worldwide Television News). He has also successfully managed TV start-up news network teams, EBC in Switzerland and Telecampione in Italy.

Tapio Hedman

Tapio Hedman is Senior Vice President, Multimedia Marketing, responsible for Nokia’s marketing activities for the Multimedia business group globally.

In his preivous position in Brand Management, Tapio was responsible for Nokia´s global brand strategy. Prior to his role in Brand Management, Tapio had global responsibility for Nokia’s PR and media activities of Nokia Mobile Phones as Vice President, Communications.

All in all, Tapio has worked for Nokia for over ten years in two phases. In between, Tapio was responsible for corporate communications in Hartwall, the leading brewing and soft drinks company in Finland.

Tapio has a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Communications, from the University of Helsinki. Tapio is married with a son and daughter, and his family is complemented by four dogs which come in all sizes, and one cat. Tapio is a keen exercise and outdoors enthusiast, and he also enjoys riding his Vespa and Mini.
 
 
Dato' Tony Fernandes
Group Chief Executive Officer
AirAsia , MALAYSIA

Tony Fernandes, aged 42 is the Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia, the leading low cost airline in Asia. Born on 30 th April 1964, he obtained his early education in Epsom College, UK and pursued his studies in Accounting from the London School of Economics. He started his career as the Financial Controller at Virgin Communications London from 1987-1989 and Senior Financial Analyst at Warner Music International London from 1989 to 1992. He was then appointed as the Managing Director at Warner Music Malaysia in 1992 and Regional Managing Director, Asean in 1999 and Vice President, Asean at Warner Music South East Asia.

Tony was admitted as an Associate Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1991 and became a Fellow Member in 1996. In recognition of his contribution to the Malaysian music industry, he received the title ‘Setia Mahkota Selangor’ from Duli Yang Maha Mulia DiPertuan Agong, Sultan Salahudin Abdul Aziz Shah in 1993 and in 1997, the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia has honored him with ‘Recording Industry Person of the Year 1997’. In July 2005, Tony was conferred the Darjah Datuk Paduka Tuanku Ja’afar (DPTJ) which carries the title Dato’ by the Negeri Sembilan’s Yang DiPertuan Besar Tuanku Ja’afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman in conjunction with His Majesty’s 83rd birthday in recognition of his services rendered to the betterment of the nation and community.

Tony joins the ranks of 237 of the world’s elite leaders in ‘Young Global Leaders’, an organization for individuals who have committed their knowledge and expertise to engage in major global undertakings to shape the future. Tony is the recipient of the International Herald Tribune award for the Visionaries & Leadership Series, for his outstanding work in AirAsia. In Dec 2003, Tony was named “Malaysian Chief Executive Officer of the Year 2003” by American Express and Business Times. Richard Kimber
Regional Managing Director Australia, Korea and South East Asia for Google.

He leads Google’s business operations in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and the entire region south of Hong Kong including Singapore. He joined Google in July 2006.

Prior to joining Google, Richard spent 8 years with the HSBC Group in a variety of senior roles across the world. His final role was as Chief Executive of FirstDirect Bank in the UK. FirstDirect is renowned as the most recommended Bank in the UK (for 13 years), and employs 3500 people. In this role Richard initiated a broad change program that saw the business grow its customer deposits by over 50% to £7.5 Billion; income grew to £300 million and profitability surpassed £100 million in 2005. Under Richard’s leadership FirstDirect re-entered the Sunday Times Top100 places to work in 2005 and received numerous other awards for product innovation and Internet development.

From 2001 to 2004 Richard was the Global Head of e-marketing for HSBC based in New York. He led HSBC's successful 3-year global strategic alliance with Yahoo! and was President of HSBC’s Internet payment subsidiary.

From 2000 to 2001 he was based in Hong Kong as head of e-business Asia-Pacific. He launched HSBC’s award winning consumer internet sites in Hong Kong and was an advisor to the government on internet policy.

Richard joined the HSBC Group in Australia in 1998 as Managing Director of HSBC InvestDirect (a telephone and online stock broking business) He was the founder and led the start up business to profitability in less than 12 months.

Prior to HSBC Richard worked in the stock broking industry in Australia. He was General Manager of Macquarie Equities, a division of Macquarie Bank. He also worked at the Australian Stock Exchange where he was responsible for strategy and planning.

In 2005 Australian business magazine BRW ranked Richard in the top 20 Australian expatriates globally under 45 years of age.

Richard has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Macquarie University and also completed his MBA at Macquarie University in 1992.
